TESTIMONIAL

"Box[ur] shorts is a truly innovative way of bringing art to the people, giving much needed life to the typical concept of a film festival. Where else can you take a break from life and enjoy a couple of quality short films, then go on your way?"

Short films from the UK, Germany and USA pick up the MG Mode-sponsored nobel metal undies at the 2nd box[ur]shorts™ Awards Night that took place at the historic New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles. Festival judges Scott Prendergast, Izumi Hasegawa, Marc Hermann with his Swiss team and last year's Gold winner Kerrie Scher were among the guests who joined the screening and sponsored reception on Friday, January 11th.

Nearly 200 filmmakers, students and movie enthusiasts of all ages gathered for the second box[ur]shorts™ Film Festival awards night in Los Angeles to celebrate the 2nd year competition of the innovative movie jukebox short film festival. While the first event was held in 2006 at nearby Karma Coffeehouse, the festival announced the move to the historic New Beverly Cinema at La Brea and Beverly Blvd earlier in the year and with it opened up the screening to a bigger audience.

Eleven short films made it from inside the jukeboxes up on the big screen. The jury this year included actress Sophia Myles (Underworld, Tristian and Isolde, CBS Moonlight), writer/director Scott Prendergast, film critic Izumi Hasegawa among others (full jury). The winners are as followed:

Gold & Best Student Film: "Ballad of Mary Slade" by Robin Fuller
Silver: "No Room for Gerold" by Daniel Nocke
Bronze: "Midnight Express" by Ryan Landels
Audience Award: "Letting Go" by Dan Masucci

The finalist movies were presented in a count-down screening after guests had been served free drinks and Swiss chocolate, which has become a well received tradition at box[ur]shorts™ Film Festival. "I mostly come here for the awesome chocolate," a festival goer confessed jokingly and festival producer Ryan Reichenfeld adds that "Giacun is Swiss and therefore has direct access to prime chocolate from his homeland. We yet have to find an official chocolate sponsor but I'm sure that'll happen in the near future."
