06_11_01_jury

The first box[ur]shorts™ Film Festival competition has found a competent jury to award the coveted Golden undies to a lucky winner. The panel consists of actor Joel David Moore (Dodgeball, Art School Confidential), cinema professor Dr. Davinia Thornley and up-and-coming filmmaker Rachel Cresswell. There are also two groups of film enthusiasts to evaluate the movies from the audience perspective.

Get to know the judges:

icon_joel Joel David Moore - Actor

Joel D. Moore became known in the summer hit “Dodgeball”, where he starred opposite Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn. He went on to appear in many TV roles as well as movies like “Grandma’s Boy,” "Art School Confidential," and the horror thriller "Hatchet". Upcoming films include “Shanghai Kiss” and “Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning”

icon_davinia Dr. Davinia Thornley - Movie Critic

Dr. Davinia Thornley teaches cinema studies in the Department of Communication at the University of Otago, New Zealand. She has published articles in "Quarterly Review of Film and Video," "Metro Magazine," "National Identities," and "Film Criticism," and has a chapter in the book, "Lord of the Rings: Popular Culture in a Global Context" (Wallflower/Columbia Press, '06)

icon_rachel Rachel Cresswell - Up-and-coming Filmmaker

After graduating from the Los Angeles Film Studies Center and interning at Universal Studios, Rachel Cresswell worked at Disney for several months before going freelance as a 2nd A.D. on an independent feature in 2006. She has also done some acting and is currently developing a screenplay with a Los Angeles based production company.

icon_jeromeviki Victoria & Jerome from Los Angeles, CA

Victoria Romanenko left Ukraine to become a student of medicine in the United States. That's where she met Jerome William who played Othello in Bakersfield’s only Shakespeare troupe, Illusions of Grandeur. While Jerome stopped acting since nothing could top that… Victoria and he enjoy watching movies in their free time and can't wait to vote for the shorts.

icon_jackielauren Jackie and Lauren from Atherton, CA

Jackie Jay and Lauren Winer live in Atherton, California. Originally from LA, they are currently attending Menlo College but aren’t very happy living in Nor. Cal. At least there's movies which they go see on a regular basis. They enjoy watching comedies and indie films, especially those that make their stomachs hurt because they laugh extremely hard. That’s about it.

Festival judge Joel David Moore says that “Giacun has put together a inspirational festival that allows for film creators to reach into their minds and tell stories the way they want to." It is the primary mission of box[ur]shorts™ Film Festival to provide short filmmakers with a venue where their films get maximum exposure at many locations throughout the world.

Winners in this year’s contest will be celebrated at Karma Coffeehouse in Hollywood on December 19th, 2006. The festival will give away its prizes along with the Golden, Silver and Bronze box[ur]shorts™ trophies and the audience choice award.
