
The 2008 box[ur]shorts™ Film Festival announced today its new panel of industry and audience judges. This year’s line up of judges includes Casino Royale director Martin Campbell, film critic Kit Bowen, Producer/Manager Shannon Riggs, up-and-coming filmmaker Robin Fuller and audience judges from Japan, Mexico and the US.
“We’re excited to advance our third annual festival to another level with this year’s high caliber of industry jury members. As a dire James Bond fan, I’m especially excited to have Martin Campbell’s fine eye, along with all other members of the jury, evaluate the amazing lineup of short films,” says festival director Giacun Caduff.
Ladies and gentlemen, here's the jury:
Martin Campbell - Director
Martin was born in New Zealand but soon moved to England where he began his career as a cameraman. He went on to produce and direct in both film and television. His credits include The Mask of Zorro and he has also directed two James Bond actors in their respective debuts: Pierce Brosnan in GoldenEye and Daniel Craig in Casino Royale.
Shannon Riggs - Producer
After graduating from USC’s School of Cinema TV, Shannon worked in development at Spike Lee’s company as a creative executive. She then became a producing partner on movies such as Cloverfield, Rocky Balboa and Wedding Crashers. Shannon is currently a principle manager for Frenetic Media and represents writer and directors for both television and film.
Kit Bowen - Movie Critc
Kit was born in Tampa, Florida. With detours through Indiana and Washington D.C., she landed in Southern California, where she attended UCLA and later worked as an actress, director of development, story analyst and project coordinator. Now she is a renown movie critic, journalist, and on-camera interviewer for Hollywood.com
Robin Fuller - Golden box[ur]shorts Winner (2007)
Born in 1981, Robin Fuller is a freelance filmmaker, animator and general gun for hire. Working mainly with music videos and short films, he uses a variety of animation techniques that combine traditional animation with modern methods and technologies. His first animated short The Ballad of Mary Slade was unleashed into the world of film festivals in 2007 and picked up several awards including the box[ur]shorts Golden Shorts award.
Eriko and Alba from Tokyo, Japan
Meet Alba from Mexico and Eriko from Japan who are excited 2008 box[ur]shorts Film Festival jury members, as they both like movies a lot. Together they will form one of the Audience Juries and evaluate the shorts from the movie-goer's perspective. Alba currently works as a school teacher in Japan and Eriko works for the IT industry. The 2nd Audience Jury is made up of a bunch of film enthusiasts from Virginia. Ready for them? Matt Caduff once ran the Gempen Berglauf - Lori Stahl's ex boyfriend kissed Dave Matthews - William Hinkley has built his own airplane - Renate Hinckley is an ex barkeeper - Nathan Passen was once nicknamed 'the old bear" - and Betty Valdrama, happens to be a gardener extraordinaire...
Winners in this year’s contest will be commemorated at the New Beverly Cinema on January 10th, 2009, where the top three winners will be named in addition to the audience choice award and the best student film award. The festival will award winners with over $6,000 worth of prizes sponsored by Showbiz Software, Avid, Fuji Film and the Write Brothers, to name a few.
